Somewhat of an aside, but since the middle of September of 2001, it has been obvious to me that The Great War On Terror can work only if the terrorists are incredibly unimaginative.

Something similar could be said for the russiagate conspiracy theory. To believe it, one must believe that Putin understands the American political system better than the best consultants and data scientists that money can buy.

At the same time, one must also believe that, in spite of having superpowers bordering on psychic mind control, Putin has no clue how to use these amazing superpowers.

Another great fact! If Putin really had that degree of knowledge and control, why wouldn't America be in his pocket by now? He wouldn't need to act all tough and threatening when he could simply get American politicians elected who were sympathetic to Russia.

Well, if Putin has these powers that would make Goebbels or Ivy Lee weep hot salty pony tears of envy, managing to flip an election featuring some $2,300,000,000 dollars in ad spend for less money than it costs to run a contested City Council election in Fargp, North Dakota, why didn't he spend a couple of bucks more and elect a new Congress?

For that matter, why isn't Stoli the best-selling beverage in the land?

Of course, if anyone actually believed that the Kremlin had such incredible powers of persuasion, every advertiser would hire Russians to run their ad campaigns. Anything else would be bringing a knife to a gunfight.

And I am not a Trump fan, but stupid conspiracy theories are still stupid.

Yeah, the whole Russiagate thing was nonsense. (Not saying Russia didn't TRY to interfere in our elections - every major country does, with Israel being the top participant - but the degree to which they supposedly shifted the election was pure nonsense.) Every time the legacy media makes an accusation like this (which they clearly didn't even take the time to think about, let alone investigate very hard) they just lose credibility. At this point in time their credibility is almost entirely shot, which is why I call them the "legacy media" instead of "mainstream media."
